Tal Chess Memorial Round 7: Both Overnight Leaders Morozevich, Kramnik Lose
The seventh round at the 7th Tal Memorial saw two upsets - both the joint overnight leaders losing their games! Not only did Alexander Morozevich lost his second game in a row to last seed Evgeny Tomashevsky, but joint leader and former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik lost to Luke McShane as well. This allowed five players now in joint lead.
The Tal Chess Memorial is being held at the Pashkov House in Moscow with 10 of the world's top players from June 8-18. You can watch the games live at the official website from India time 7.30 pm. Rest days were June 11 and 15. The time control is 100 minutes for the first 40 moves, 50 minutes for the next 20 moves, and 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. In the other games, women's world chess champion China's Hou Yifan obtained a better middlegame position against former women's world chess champion Bulgaria's Antoaneta Stefanova. Yifan then went on to implement a decisive attack and win. Another tense game, Koneru-Cmilte, finished in a draw.
After six rounds of play, Elina Danielian leads with 4.5 points. Katerina Lahno and Anna Muzychuk share the second place with half a point behind. Hampy Koneru and Viktorija Cmilyte are sharing 4th – 5th places with 3.5 points, followed by Nadezhda Kosintseva and Hou Yifan who are placed 6-7 with 3 points each. Alexandra Kosteniuk, Tatiana Kosintseva and Antoaneta Stefanova are at 8 – 10 spots with 2.5 points. Alisa Galliamova is currently eleventh with 2 points, followed by Betul Yildiz with 1 point.

Kasparov has reiterated that the Sports Page is not enough and Chess needs a powerful new image for its educational value.

No Retirement, Out to Win More: Vishy Anand
Anand said his morale was on a high after defeating a "complicated" opponent like Boris Gelfand in Moscow recently. "There are definitely no thoughts of retirement. In fact quite the opposite. (Winning a fifth world title) has been a huge boost to my morale. As long as I enjoy, I don't see any reason to retire."

The Anatoly Karpov-Viktor Korchnoi World Chess Championship 1978 began with four draws. The fifth game was drawn as well, but not without 124 moves - the longest in the world chess championship match history - and spills, chills and thrills aplenty.
Korchnoi began the game with clear attacking signals going for the kill from the word go. By the 42 move, it was almost clear that Karpov was going to lose this. The game was adjourned and Karpov sealed his move.
Remember this is a time before those chip-powered things made chess so machine-like! Karpov sealed not the best move. He had sealed an unexpected move and Korchnoi went for the mating attack after accepting a sacrifice. Karpov led his King on a long-escape for life across the board. Korchnoi went on to miss a checkmate on the 55th move in extreme time trouble and diluted to an endgame with a piece up.

The fifth day at the Kazan Chess Grand Prix for Women saw two decisive games right after the free day. Armenia's Elina Danielian held on to her lead with a draw against Viktorija Cmilyte. However, Anna Muzychuk defeated Betul Yildiz to join Elina Danielian in the lead. Katerina Lahno also beat Alexandra Kosteniuk to move up the table. Antoaneta Stefanova and Tatiana Kosintseva missed important wins against Alisa Galliamova and Humpy Koneru. Nadezhda Kosinsteva also drew with Hou Yifan. However, the field is still wide open and there are four players just half or a point behind. Anything could happen in the last few rounds at this exciting women's chess event.

Kasparov Clarifies Remarks About Fide Presidency Candidature
Meanwhile, Kasparov has said, "To clarify the recent news reports, it is true that I think it is essential to do whatever is necessary to remove Kirsan Ilyumzhinov from the International Chess Federation (FIDE). And if that means running for FIDE president myself in 2014, it is possible but not the real priority. What is Important is taking FIDE and Chess back from Ilyumzhinov, who brings disgrace after disgrace to the sport by meeting with murderous dictators while ignoring the opportunities to bring chess INTO education systems around the world. I will post a long article on my thoughts about the future of chess and FIDE after this weekend's 10th anniversary event for the Kasparov Chess Foundation in Bryant Park in New York City. It is from 10am to 2pm on June 16 with a kids' tournament and more. If you can attend I will see you there!" Kasparov also tweeted similarly.

World Chess Fed: Karpov Says Major Leadership Changes Required
Former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov has beaten GM Yasser Seirawan in an exhibition chess match in Saint Louis. The match concluded with Karpov winning 8-6 (1-1 classical, 1-1 rapid, 6-4 blitz-Karpov).
A live press conference broadcast around the world was held after the chess match. During the press conference, Macauley Petersen relayed a question posted by Daaim Shabazz of The Chess Drum - the most definite chess website/blog on Black chess community (12:50 in video). Karpov was asked whether he had any additional political ambitions in FIDE after having lost the 2010 elections. Karpov said FIDE was “wrongly led” and suggested that the current leadership be removed.

Chess blitz match between Garry Kasparov and Nigel Short took place in October 2011 in Leuven, Belgium. The blitz chess match celebrated the 5th jubilee edition of YourNextMove, a Belgian initiative to promote chess and support children between 6 and 12 years old. First Garry dominated, then Nigel fired back, and the decision came in the final game when Garry Kasparov beat Nigel Short 4.5-3.5.
Kasparov and Short faced each other 18 years after their controversial battle for the world championship in London. In the early 90s they founded the Professional Chess Association (PCA), a rival organisation to FIDE which existed between 1993 and 1996. Nigel Short won the Candidates tournament and became Kasparov's challenger for the PCA World Championship. The match took place in the Savoy Theatre in London, under the sponsorship of The Times. Kasparov won 12.5-7.5 and became PCA World Chess Champion.

Tal Chess Memorial Round 3: Radjabov, Morozevich Lead; Aronian loses to Tomashevsky
The 7th Tal Chess memorial Round 3 saw World No. 2 use a dangerous line against last seed Evgeny Tomashevsky. But, as World Chess Championship challenger Boris Gelfand would say, ratings are nothing. Tomashevsky took the call and beat Levon Aronian. Meanwhile, Alexander Morozevich beat Alexander Grischuk to move up with Teimour Radjabov in joint lead. All games saw exciting play with none of the grandmasters hesitating to experiment or try a sacrifice!

Kazan Women's Chess Grand Prix Begins with Top Women's Chess Players
The Women's Chess Grand Prix - fourth in the Series 2011-2012 - has begun in Kazan, Russia. The time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. Draw offers are not allowed. Games start at 4.30 India time and can be watched at the official website. The prize fund is 40,000 euro.

The 7th Tal Chess Memorial is a 10-player round robin chess tournament that is taking place at the beautiful Pashkov House in Moscow from June 8 to 18. The prize fund is 100,000 euros. There will be two rest days on June 11 and 15. The time control offers 100 minutes for 40 moves, 50 minutes for extra 20 moves, and 15 minutes for finishing the game. There is a 30-second increment for every move from the starting of the game. Games start at India time 4.30 pm and you can watch them on the official website. Shaimiev, Chief Executive Officer of FIDE Mr. G. Borg, assistant to FIDE President Mr. B. Balgabaev and distinguished guests. We can look forward to an exciting fortnight ahead of chess. The movie was in the drama/thriller genre starring John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Irrfan with lyrics by Sandeep Shrivastava. The music was by Pritam and story by Aditya Chopra. Kabir Khan directed the movie.

FIDE President Congratulates Alexandra Kosteniuk, Valentina Gunina at Special Function in Moscow
The 12th Women's World Chess Champion, Alexandra Kosteniuk, has always been known for her non-compromising, very attacking, and entertaining chess games since she was a kid. Kosteniuk's Chess Blog is also the #1 chess blog in the United States and her Chess Queen blog is her personal 'diary' that gives fans an insight into the life of a world chess champion.
Fide president Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Moscow Chess Federation president Vladimir Palikhata and first deputy chairman of Moscow Sports Committee Nikolay Gulyaev congratulated the chess players.
