French Chess Magazine Organises Game Against Anatoly Karpov Through Tour de France

This chess event is an exciting one for everyone interested in the Tour de France. You can now play against former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov of Russia. The French chess magazine of Europe Echecs is organising a super chess game for players from around the world along side the Tour de France 2012 that begins on Saturday, June 30.

Chess players can register from anywhere in the world at the Europe Echecs website. Karpov will visit the Tour de France on July 21 near the conclusion of the race at Champs de Elyses.

All chess players who register at the site can make a move within 24 hours of Karpov's move. Karpov told chess magazine Europe Echecs that he had never been to the Tour de France before and had only watched it on television. The former world chess champion also said that cycling required similar skills of endurance and discipline as chess. The Tour de France website can be accessed here. You can register for the chess game against Anatoly Karpov at this link.

The 2012 Tour de France is going to be the 99th edition of the event. It will start from the city of Liège in Belgium and conclude at the Champs-Elysées in Paris. The tour would also proceed through Switzerland. This time it combines the excitement of chess and cycling.

Anatoly Yevgenyevich Karpov (Russian:Анато́лий Евге́ньевич Ка́рпов) was the official world chess champion from 1975 to 1985 before he lost the title to Garry Kasparov.
